Have you ever been reading a novel or short story and notice your mind spacing to a different thought other then the words you are currently reading? Do not worry, it happens all the time to many people, but here are some tips and tricks to help you keep focused on the work. Lots of informational stories will have many confusing parts, that is why it’s important to stop and reanalysis those certain parts of the writing. Many people have their own way of interpreting things such as real world problems along with forms of retaining information, therefore it is important to put everything you earn into your own words. Authors have a strange way of giving information through the text. Sometimes it is difficult to put two and two together, so having a little bit of background knowledge on the article is always beneficial. It is almost like you have to “jump” into the work you are reading.
You can use your schemata to provide the best understanding of any readings. Intelligent people have lots of schemata and use it to help them in many ways. That is the reason behind why people know so much about what stories are based upon, such as an english teacher would engage and understand this piece of writing better then students would. Having more knowledge in general will provide you with more power to comprehend readings.
Humans learn things in many different ways and have even more ways of thinking and solving problems. Making it very key to put paragraphs you do not understand very well into your own words. There are lots of ways to solve math problems, while some individuals might prefer to solve them a certain way. Others might find it simpler to solve them in a similar but different way. Finding your own ways to better understand confusing parts of a reading by putting them into your own words will make reading much easier.
Slowing things down will always make pieces of work easier to comprehend. While you read difficult parts of an article you may need to slow down and reread many parts of the story, especially if the story is about a topic you have background knowledge about. I was reading the article for this paper and there were multiple times I had to slow down and take a breath and try to understand the topic clearly. Sometimes I will have to reread it three to four times, which helped me a lot. Always make sure to stop and take your time with topics that are hard to understand, it will always be worth it in the end.
Everyone, no matter age or level of knowledge will run into pieces of writings that confuse them. It is super important to reread statements, use prior schemata, and put things into your own words. Doing this will make you better at retaining knowledge of the text you read, so just jump right into your text.
