Course Reflection

Reflection

I have always been good at putting words on paper, but I’ve never been good at grammar. I never had an English class like this where we were able to write about pretty much anything, we wanted which was awesome. As this class stated I was a little overwhelmed with all the writing I had to do but Bonnie made it very easy to accomplish with her weekly checkpoints. I knew college English was going to be harder than high school, so I had to make sure to show up and get my work done. Which I did until the virus hit then it was not very easy to complete the blog posts. I believe I was more engaged then a lot of the class which is normal for me. This class made me think about things way more critically like in a way I have never thought of. I also think this class made me smarter in general.

“School always came easy to me, I never had to worry about passing classes as long as I showed up and did my work. College was never really on my mind, the reason for that is, I never thought I would be able to produce good grades like I have in high school. A couple major factors that changed my thought about attending college, is I had mentors believing in me and telling me I am smart enough to get a degree. I love wrestling, and I knew if I wrestled in college I would meet all kinds of new people and coaches that would always have my back. I almost wanted to start a new life so I decided to attend a college that was far away from my hometown. I chose to go to college to better myself, for a number of reasons.

I have always had a few coaches and teachers behind me, giving me a sense of direction. Now that I am older I realized they were all pushing me to do my best, whether it was for applying for scholarships, or checking out different career options. One day after school my coach told me to come to his room, he sat me down and we talked about college. Soon we came across the three best options for me and I chose the one I wanted. I did not really know much about Rochester Community and Technical College, but I always put lots of trust into my coach, so I was positive I had made the right decision.

The sport of wrestling has opened up a whole world of opportunities for me, not only for wrestling, but education along with it. Rochester offered me a spot on the wrestling team with it’s amazing coaches. It has also provided me with many new interactions with people that I will network with for much of my life. I love being a part of the college. It really helps me get to know people and their different cultures, along with making all kinds of new friends. I have been in college for seven months, but I know I have made connections with great people that will last me a lifetime.

I became very bored of my hometown, I do not know if it was from being there for too long, or myself just wanting something different. I was growing out of my small town of 1,100 people and wanted more action. Many people questioned my idea of going to a college so far away from home. I was very skeptical about it. My friends told me we would not see each other often and that when I moved to college I would know absolutely no one. They definitely were right. I did miss them and I knew no one.

After being at Rochester Community and Technical College for about seven months, I realized my mentors throughout high school were right. The school work is not that hard and I am passing my classes. I have made new and better friends while still staying in touch with my old ones. Wrestling has been the best year of my career. My team is the best and I love every one of them. My decision to go to college had lots of factors, but I went and it was possibly the best decision I have ever made.”

Most Confident

Above is the 4th essay that I wrote, it is about education and why it’s important to me. I chose this whole essay because It allowed me to write it about myself and I think when I’m able to do that I become a better writer. I do not have to research a topic and learn it, then write a whole essay on it. I am also much more interested in writing about myself. So the whole essay just made me feel confident about what I was writing.

“Every sport in the world today will require some sort of mental preparation. That is if you want to be good at that particular sport. You can just wake up and go practice everyday and then play on Saturdays and not think a damn thing about it. Now if you want to be great at the sport you play, you need to think and  apply yourself to it and take away something from it each and every day. A Person who does these mental preparations each and everyday will not only have an edge over other athletes but an edge over other people in life. They will do the same things as others, but they will take away lessons from it unlike the people who just wake up and go through their day.”

Proudest Moment

The paragraph above is one of my essays titled, “Why Play Sports?” This is my proudest moment because all my life, sports impacted me the most, they taught me many different life lessons. They got me to where I am right now. I just believe that if you play sports things in life will be easier. There are many different reasons for that listed in the essay.

Things I Have Learned

The things that I gained from this course are based upon looking at things a different way. I have learned to look at readings through many different perspectives and how someone else would feel about it. This will help me in life, because it will give me a sense of how other people are feeling. Another good thing I learned about the course is, how to make a plan to complete an essay in one week. This is always something I knew how to do but never that often like each week. This will help me in just about anything throughout my life that is important to me.
